What would look balanced in large ceramic boot?

so here it is;

 I thought astibe cos that has height and is interesting enough but it seems to like spreading room. I wondered about red , darkish or white or same colour as boot. Need something that can live happily in the odd shape. Height from ground to 'ankle' is 9 inches. And northwest facing with some gusts.I live in London by the canal.

    Hope its sole has holes for drainage only it doesn`t look at all worn out! Anything orange would look good against the blue for complete contrast. Don`t think astilbe would like it much, mine spread a lot and like plenty of water. How about marigolds?

  • You want something that is a temporary display such as the Pelargonium. Anything more vigorous and permanent will be a real pain to deal with when it gets choked with roots. Or you could take the alternative and have saxifrages, sempervivums or sedums tumbling out of it. Assuming good drainage of course. I drilled holes in the bottom of 2 large snail shells I have had for many years. They have deep red Pelargoniums in this year.

  • Pottery snail shells of course, not the real thingimage

    a large ceramic foot  haha

    I've got giant pansies in two other pots and I love em but they grow nuts and can then die in a day it feels. I'm now wondering about gladiolli. Could only fit 4 or 5 but they'd be tall.I looked at a nice frilly orange orchid which was supposed to be good for beginners, but the orchid place I looked at online didn't do it.
