Scarlet sentinel column apple tree
in Fruit & veg
We moved into our house 2 years ago and have a rather unusal apple tree. It grows straight up like a column, is probably about 8ft tall and has 4 or 5 main branches all growing straight up with short spurs coming off them. It is no more than a metre across. Internet research hs led me to believe it is a Scarlet Sentinel Columnar Apple tree but I can only find limited references to it on american websites. I am pretty curious as to where it came from and when it might have been planted. (House was built in 1902).
Has anyone come across one of these before? Do you have any advice regarding pruning and general care/maintenance?
Many Thanks
