At this time of year there's always that temptation to keep taking the rhubarb for just another crumble or cake!! I try and leave alone about mid July and let it die back down then give it a good covering of compost. Only trouble then is keeping the cats off using it as a toilet area.
Rhubarb can be remarkably resilient. We had fantastic one, then tried to move it but it succumbed. Got another crown off 'freecycle' but too cold to plant properly, so hubby bunged it in a pot, but planted it upside down. When weather warmed up, I was going to compost it, but lovely healthy 'forced' (by mistake) growth, and now doing v well.
logan you can make a 'brew' with the leaves to use to keep the nasties off your non edible plants, i think you put them in a dustbin with water but check google as i'm not sure of recipe, mine go in the compost too.
