my pond (can see from kitchen window)has gone from clear to milky purple cloudy overnight and no idea why?

It has been very windy here in the night and record wind speeds in the North-my guess is it has whipped up some of the muck from the bottom
-blame the wind
-leave it- it will settle back in time
In my area, everyone swears by a bunch of barley straw(?) in their ponds.
