plum OPAL not setting fruit

my plum tree flowered but did not set fruit
my OPAL plum tree had loads of fruit the year before last , but last year there was less, this year it has not set fruit why, I was also wondering if root suckers can interfere with the vigor of a tree as I have discovered quite a few suckers through my borders this year, I tried to tear them from the root but some had to be cut off, could this have something to do with this problem. regards Barbara

it has been quite cold but there has been a lot of bees in my garden the question is did they get to the flowers, they definitely got to my apple trees because there is lots of apples this year.
looks like it, never mind I can eat and make apple pie instead of plum pudding, thanks for your help anyway, regards Barbara
