leaf drop on prunus nigra ( ornamental plum )

can anyone tell me why my plum tree flowered and then instead of continuing to produce different coloured leaves through the season ,the leaves fell off, this tree is about 12 years old , any information would be welcome as I don't know if it has died.

all the leaves have dropped, but my tree had red leaves that get darker as the year goes on
sorry forgot to say the did not change colour at all
doesn't have any signs of having a graft and there is no obvious trauma on the tree, last year during the hot weather it dropped leaves but I just thought it was stress but the summer has not started in Scotland yet
is there a treatment I could try for this as I presume you cannot see the fungus in the soil and there is nothing I can do other than scrape the bark and see if it has any life left in it or wait till it dies completely
Thanks for your help regarding both of my problems funny how they are both prunus trees , I will do what I can to get to the bottom of this as I love this tree when it is not bald as my husband
I love him though so maybe I will just live with it
