Wooden Trough Planter
Hi everyone.
I am a first time gardener, so please be gentle
I have purchased two 6 foot long wooden troughs, with feet. They are 16cm wide and approx. 20cm deep. They are to run along each side of my garden shed. I would like to paint the troughs in a grey colour, but I am not sure if I need to treat the wood with anything after I have painted them and also if I need to line the troughs and if so what kind of liner is it I should use. The troughs have pre drilled drainage holes in them. They are made from tanalised timber. I would appreciate your comments. Many thanks!

If you use a garden paint like cuprinol you shouldn't need to treat with anything else. Lining them will protect the insides more and make it easier to change the compost in the future. Good luck!!
I am just planning on putting some flowers in there that I have been growing from seed. I bought my first house 18 months ago and now that the internal work is done I have been getting green fingered!
Very gentle Edd, thanks
The finished product! Not bad for a novice, I don't think. I drilled a couple of extra drainage holes in the bottom, lined it with empty 50 litre compost bags, added some stones for drainage and have planted some busy lizzies I have grown. I used gre and cream wood paint. Hopefully the plants will grow!
Great job! Where did you find the stencil for the lettering?
Lovely colour. You did puncture the bottom of the bags for drainage?
You're turning into a gardener!!!!!!!!
