Drought

Hi all, anyone else suffering from a lack of rain?  Here in South Leicestershire, the grass in the parks is going brown and a lot of even large trees are beginning to wilt.  The soil in the borders and veg beds is dry down to about 6 inches so I need to give the whole garden a good soaking with the sprinker this evening as I can't really plant anything out in these conditions as there is no rain forecast for the next 10 days!

Shall I send you some of our rain? Never a shortage of that here in Scotland!

Yes Bob, the torential rain that spread through the east of the country earlier in the week missed us by inches. (Peterborough) I'm watering what is newly planted and holding off planting anything else til we get rain. If we don't, I'll have to pot on.

There's a new plantation of trees in the field next door. They were planted very late in the season and some look dead to me.

Weve had none in nottingham either. The thunderstorms passed us by.

  • Nothing in Surrey either. My husband offered to do a rain dance for our vegtables yesterday. I'm waiting for the hosepipe ban!

We used to call this month 'flaming June' years ago. Always a drought month then.

I wouldn't mind if we had had a scorcher of a spring Lyn, but it's been colder than usual which is why many of my plants are only now ready to go out.  Like nut, I think I'll do some more potting-on as it does tend to produce better specimens which are more likely to survive the inevitable onslaught of molluscs, when the rain finally does appear! image

I'd love a steam in the garden FG! image

Been thinking of putting a small pond in for years but can't make up my mind which area to 'sacrifice' as I always seem to have about four times as many plants as there is room to plant them!  I don't think I'm unusual in that respect on this forum though! image
