Growing fruit & veg for the first time

in Fruit & veg
What is the latest time of the year that I can start planting fruit and veg? I have never done it before and although my garden is big I don't know where to start. I was thinking of planting in containers-are there any fruit and veg that are easier for beginners to start with?

I was in the same boat as you last year
there is still time to sow french beans and they are quite easy! you can also sow crops like lettuce and pak choi and herbs. Also at this time of the year it is too late to be sowing many veg but you can pick up young plants from the garden centre
Thank you very much for your advice-it's good news that I'm not too late to grow something this year!
I'm excited to see to see my first crop of potatoes, french beans, leaves and herbs - I'll report back how I get on...Thanks
There isn't a lot you can get this time of year, strawberries and blueberries, the rest is from October to march if you look on DT brown web site you can see what's
available and you could order a catalogue they also do veg and a few flowers
You could grow blackberries strawberries raspberries blueberries in containers about 20x20in blueberries are acid loving plants so use ericaceose compost they can go in 15x15in container 6 strawberry plants 6 raspberries
It's not too late for runner beans courgettes cucumbers lettuce spring onions
Thanks Logan, it's exciting to know that there is so much that can be grown at this late stage -I was particularly hoping to grow blueberries, blackberries and strawberries and I love all the veg that you mentioned too!
No problem - i only just changed it. the advice is very much appreciated.
Thanks scroggin for your reply, I can't believe how many fruit and veg options are still available this time of year - so glad I asked!
