Bamboo - what am I doing wrong?

Hi all, I planted these golden bamboo a couple of months ago. Initially all was fine and they grew many new culms, but now most of the culms have stopped growing at around 6 inches and the leaves are turning brown at the tips and falling off.

Its in a fairly windy south-west facing spot and I water regularly.

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Thanks!

Doesn't sound or look as your'e doing anything wrong. Wind can cause as much foliage damage as frost and we've had some very cool wind recently. If you've given them an annual feed then just keep doing what your'e doing. Nothing you can do about wind.

  • Thanks that's reassuring, hopefully they'll improve in the upcoming hotter months

  • I only water every few days, not daily. Yes Verdun, good point, I did wonder if the planters were too small.....

I had a black bamboo but it was sited in an exposed part of the garden where the wind  funneled through between the garage and the greenhouse and it died. Not knowing what the cause was I bought another with same result - then someone pointed out the exposed position and said that was the probable cause so I didn't try again.
