South/west facing wall plants

hi everyone, I have a south facing garden with a party wall down one side which is west facing.   The soil is not great but ok.  I would like to make this border attractive by planting some plants which reach 2m max height and would be suitable against a wall not necessarily climbing but just nice cottage garden looking, not invasive etc

can anyone recommend any easy suitable plants to help me landscape this section.

many thanks in advance

So jealous. Euphorbia characias ssp wulfenii, Salvia nemorosa, Phlomis russeliana, Geranium 'Philip Vapelle', Eryngium bourgatii, Origanum vulgare, and Stipa giganteum would work well together (shades of blue/mauve with green/yellow accents) and love a hot dry site at the base of a south facing wall, preferably with stony free draining soil. But you have a huge range at your disposal, including lovely 'Mediterranean' style plants. You could consider growing figs! They'd love it there.

Basically, all the things I love which I can't really grow because my garden is a bit small and shaded.

  • Great, thank you, i will look some of your suggestions up.  Just trying to make sure i get some upright ones that don't go crazy and take up all the lawn or go over neighbours wall - i have planted things before but not having green fingers in anyway they often not worked out.

I'll echo the recommendation for trained fruit trees - they will love being against a sunny wall and give you that lovely 'cottagey' feel (plus fruit too, of course.) image

Figs may be a bit big for the OP, but I'd definitely have one. Trachelospermum would be a nice climber to use.
