Lily bulbs

in Plants
Hi,
I got some Lily bulbs the other month through one of the gardeners mags. I've recently come across them after forgetting i had them. Trouble is they've sprouted. What should/can i do with them?
Thanks

Get them planted Jason - in a pot might be best just to let them grow on. They will probably still flower for you but if not they'll build themselves up for next year.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Plant them now, being as careful as you can as those shoots will be very brittle. The bulbs need to be (ideally) about 6 to 8 inches (15-20cm) deep. If that means all of the shoots are also underground than that is normal - roots will grow from those and they will soon break the surface and the leaves will form.
Perfect, Jason.
That should be fine Jason. Mine are in fairly standard compost. I put a layer of gravel in the bottom of my pots to stop drainage holes getting blocked. Some slow release food mixed with the compost will help and once they're growing away and have buds you could also give them a liquid feed. I bought some sprouting lilies this sort of time last year too - they flowered well and are about to flower now. That's all I did with them
