drooping fushia

my mother in law grew a few climbing fushias from cuttings and gave me a couple. 2 of them are going really well and have buds on. the other one didnt do to well but is starting a come back. but the other one was going really well and even started growing buds but yesterday for no reason it started wilting. i watered it partially yesterday (as i thought it was due to lack of water) i didnt want to over water it as we were due a down pour today. i have watered it again today but it just looks like it has given up the ghost. have i over watered it or could it be something else? should i give up on it?

Could you post a photo? Sometimes seeing the plant can help come up with possibilities of what's gone wrong.

Have you checked the roots for something chewing them, it's a bit early for vine weevil grubs but maybe something there.

  • it is in a bed where it gets the morning sun but the other ones are in beds where they get the afternoon sun so didnt think it would of been an issue. i will move it if need be. i am in benfleet, we did have a hot one today so maybe it is that

If should recover from the heat it's probably the roots

Lyn, its not too early for vine weevil grubs, I`ve just had potted dahlias decimated by them eating all the roots off the tubers, so marc when you move your fuchsia I suggest you wash all the soil from around the roots and replant in fresh soil just in case! Good luck.

I've discovered a lot of vine weevil when cutting turf to create a new path!

I agree this could be an issue Wishbone, very destructive creatures!

That's quite difficult for a bed grown plant though. You can wash those off the roots but they may still be in the soil, there is a nematode for these and they do work well.

  • Tried moving it today and it was rotten at the base of the stem. Not sure what the cause is

  • What does a vine weevil grub look like? I have found a few grubs in the soil but not sure what they are. Pasty white ugly things, I usually put them on the bird table
