Could you take a photo of the plant, I cant imagine a stalk on delphiniums without buds on it.

The flower heads could have been eaten by caterpillars of the delphinium moth, but you should see some evidence of that:

Here's a picture.the buds are so tiny can i do anything to make them produce flowers now or in the fall.

They are still growing, wait a week and see what they produce, they will certainly be beautiful plants next year.

They are an early summer bloom in the UK, we don't get a lot of bloom from them in the Autumn.

  • thank you so much for the reply. should i feed them at this point? thanks again, debra

I don't feed any of the plants in my garden, just a pile of compost around in the winter, I feel that the soil rejuvenates itself for its needs, but a few people do.

Maybe wait for advise on that one from a ground feeder!

  • thanks alot lyn, i will take your advice.

  • something is eating my delphiniums, all the leaves have holes, the ones that are left. I have sprayed them, put slug pellets down, but have run out of ideas is there anything else I can do?

Assuming you're in the UK trist - delphiniums are becoming dormant now for the winter & looking ragged.

Cut all the stems down to the ground & wait for spring when you should see lots of new shoots. That might be the time to use slug pellets if you need to but please don't use them unless you're sure the shoots are being attacked by slugs - the pellets are not good for other wildlife in the garden.

You can find 'friendlier' pellets in the garden centre if you do need to use them. Come back in th e spring for advice if you need help with selection image
