Courgettes in greenhouse

Courgettes doing ok. Have harvested a couple already and have another 2 coming and lots of flowers however have just gone down there and about 4 flowers have dropped off just leaving the stem and no courgette. Is this something to do with pollination ???

  • if they are in the greenhouse you may need to pollinate by handimage

  • or it could be that the flowers that have fallen off are the male flowers

Yes they were the male flowers thanks gardening arc.

Have googled how to pollinate by hand so have tried that will do the same on the cucumbers. Bees can get in as leave door open on hot days and the greenhouse has windows that automatically open as it gets hotter.

    Will wait and see.

I've always grown them outdoors, could it be that's now the weather is warming up it's to hot for them in the GH.

  • I love courgettes, growing a few varieties this year.

Good advice above from GA and Zoomer. Mine are outside during the day, in greenhouse overnight as a short-term precaution but will soon be potted on to final large tubs.

Do courgettes need protection from pests outdoors?

No, not once they get to a decent size - very small ones can suffer from slug attack, but once they're big enough to be planted out I find the slugs leave them alone. image
