New Apple trees

I was at an organic garden talk last night and it was surgested that you sink plastic bottles , 3 per tree in the ground , holes in the base , leave the top on and fill with water rather than just watering the ground ( obviously not at the moment ) and I wondered if anybody out there had tried this

You will often see black corrugated tubes near to freshly planted trees in commercial plantings-this is just a variation on that-is is not a new idea and makes sense.
I do it slightly differently - I cut the bottom off the plastic bottle and take the cap off the top. Then turn the bottle upside down and sink it into the soil next to the tree, shrub and especially next to my courgette plants. Then when watering I fill the upturned bottle and the narrow end delivers the water down to where the roots are

I have done it the same as Dove with my fruit trees - not that they needed it last year
