Cabbages etc

hi all, I have my cabbages etc all in cages as last year they all got destroyed by pigeons. They are now quite established, can I remove the protection??

Pigeons just love big juicy cabbage plants!

Last year I covered my cabbage with double grade fleece from planting time and had no trouble what so ever from pigeons, nor did I have one single cabbage white caterpillar! Moreover, you can water through the fleece without removing it.

Double grade fleece [usually sold as frost protection for greenhouses] is much tougher than standard grade fleece, mine being sound enough for a couple of more seasons, and is not at all expensive.
