Climbing roses
I've just purchased three climbing roses (from Wilkinsons) and have never grown roses before. Have been put off by the number of problems that people appear to have with them. I have planted all three separately in three large tubs and plan on placing them next to four foot fencing with trellis at the top.
Would be grateful for all and any growing/nurturing tips. I try to be as organic as possible and don't use chemical sprays. Feeding tips would be great too. Thank you.

Ive bought one mauve, one red and the other is a cross between red and pink Jo47. Hope yours does well for you. I'm thinking of buying a white one too to go inbetween the pinky one and the mauve. Afraid I've already copied this to the right section. Sorry if there is now a duplicate. i'm the same with clematis Nutcutlet. Never been able to grow one where I lived before. Planning on trying one here when I feel brave enough lol
I haven't got many climbers at all. I need to address that

Thank you very much for the advice Charlie November. I've started taking notes so I can remember what to do. I feed the birds as well and hopefully they and the insects will help me out. Glad I'm not the only one that has problems with clematis ????
There are so many fantastic climbers Nutcutlet. I have a blank canvas here as it is a new garden, plenty of trellis to cover too. Am looking forward to choosing climbers and will be looking on the forum posts for ideas for what to plant
Hi guys
I'm new to climbing roses tooAbi and the chairman has made two fan trellis at front of house put a pinky and a red one at the base of them(can't remember their names) . They are not very tall yet and I'm not sure if they will be tall enough growers. If not i 'll possibly put a taller grower next to each . I've planted a clematis next to each one hoping they will grow together.
There is a utube thread on climbing roses and it shows 3different height s of climber and also tips on pruning.
Your tip of using honeysuckle is good Charlie N will keep that in mind for autumn planting.
Climbing roses need to be tied in horizontally or at 45 degree's as soon as the stems firm up and turn from red/pale green to green. First year climbers, will produce lots of growth, and it snaps readily, so be careful and don't force the new growth into a frame too early. You won't get the best from a climber until the second year, and the best time to tie in, is towards the end of the year/ winter, when stems have firmed up. The wider you make your frame, the more roses you'll get so give them space. When you tie in, start as low as possible, otherwise you get lots of top growth and bare stems below.
Wow B L what a beautiful display
on the other thread what shade of green are those fingers of yours

Thank you Primrose will go look at utube. Thanks Charlie and Dave for the advice too. Only planted them yesterday a but are already standing up well..a wonder considering the battering of rain we had overnight and this morning. Can't wait for them to grow so I can prune them lol.
