rotting lily bulbs
I planted some lily bulbs into pots of multi purpose compost and some started growing well and some not so. On further investigation I found that the ones with little growth on were going rotten. They had a creamy liquid coming from them which didnt smell. They were in pots outside. I have had them replaced so trying again. Any ideas ?

Plenty of grit mixed with your compost marc - don't overwater. I haven't touched mine since last year - they're about 18" at the moment and all they've had is a feed about a month ago. Keep them sheltered over winter - out of the worst of the rain - and up off the ground. I keep mine against the house wall to keep them on the dry side as we get a lot of rain here.

I like to sit them on a little layer of sharp sand, If planted in pots permanently john inns No3 would be best. did you put any crocks/stones etc at the bottom of the pot to improve drainage? I left my pots of lilys in a rain shawdow at the side of the house for now because it will not stop raining.
