Growing sweetcorn

is anyone having any issues growing sweet corn, I've put seeds into the raised beds weeks ago and nothing has happened.

  • I've never had any luck planting the seeds straight outside. I always start them off in the greenhouse first, then plant them out once they're about 5 or 6inch tall.

Plus we've not had the warmest of weather lately that could be the problem. A lot of my veg is a good 2 or 3 weeks behind this year. image

    As above,

I always start mine in heat on a raised bench so the mice don't eat them.

    I got 100% germination with Swift F1

I had an issue this year  - new seeds as well, sowed them inside in my root trainer went into plastic greenhouse one 1 germinated out of 20 so went investigated them rooted seeds with like small maggots in them horrible chucked them out

Normally do well with them each year, you can germinate them in between damp kitchen roll - think I will do that technique next year then you know they will grow when in soil

Brought some plantlets today from GC not that much money and get quite a few plantlets

I started Lark indoors, not brilliant germination but okay. They are now outdoors. I bet you soil is cold and damp.

After reading other advice elsewhere on here re growing sweetcorn, I planted mine in small pots and put them in a propagator - 50 out of 50 came up and planted out last weeks at 6 to 10cinches high. Last year - in the same pots in the greenhouse I reckon about 20 out of 50 came up - the rest rotted off. I have very little luck planting anything directly so don't bother.
