What is it?

Hi there

This plant - two of them actually - has/have appeared in my garden again this year and I've no idea what it is or where it came from. The delicate flowers are a rich mauve colour.

Can someone identify it please?

It's one of the hardy geraniums - someone will tell you which one  image

Thanks everyone.  Problem solved although I'm still puzzled as to how the two plants got there in the first place  image   C'est la vie

Geraniums have a firing mechanism for dispersing their seeds so if your neighbours have one of these plants, they can easily travel to your garden. Or the birds might have brought it.

  • I have deliberately left wide gaps in my paved area and filled them with gravel for plants to self-seed. I have several geranium sanguineum that have appeared in this way. It is very interesting to see what you get, as they don't all turn out to be the same colour!

Thanks for the replies everyone. At least they won't be dug up and confined to the bin!
