Christopher Lloyd -The cottage garden

Hello everyone, first, apologies if there is already a thrad for book trading, but here it goes:

due to a strange Amazon mishap (my fault) I now have two used copies of Christopher Lloyd old book "The Cottage Garden", and I only need one.

I'd be happy to sell my extra copy for what I paid (2£ + shipping) or trade it with some other good old gardening book you might have... any offers?

My copy is hardback, and very good state, but I am happy also with well thumbed books, as long as no pages are missing image

Katherine, I'd love to buy it from you - I was only looking at it on Amazon the other  day and put it on my Wish List for Christmas.

Please let me know how much the postage will be and I'll PM you my address and send you a cheque image

Hello Dove, that's splendid, but is there any chance you could pay via Paypal? Or else send the cash in an envelope (it should be a very small amount)? I am sure I can find some British friend over here (I live in France), who can use the £ on their next trip home image

Cheques are a bit of a pain for us, sorry!

Of course, OH has a Paypal account - I'll get him to pay you image

PM me with the details and I'll send you my address image

Now I'm getting very excited image  I love Gt Dixter and Christopher Lloyd's writing. This book will be doubly treasured as  when I've read it I'll lend it to Wonky Womble who, in case you hadn't picked it up, is my darling daughter image  but she'll have to give it back to me.............. just warning her image

    Bingo, that's perfect!

I love his writing too... it is like having an old funny grumpy friend in the garden with me sometimes... it is one of my great regrets that I never had a chance to visit Great Dixter!

I have a Christopher Llloyd 'Colour for Adventurous Gardeners' book to swap, as new condition. Swap for one of the earlier Lloyd classics, or perhaps something on garden history. Or a plant, of courseimage

My copy of 'The Well Tempered Garden' has been read over and over again. I agree with Katherine about the grumpy friend. We did manage a visit to Great Dixter in 2003, fondly remembered both for the place, which is amazing, and because it was our last outing with my parents.

I like books by opinionated people, you don't always agree with them, but they make you think.William Robinson is another one, I have 'The Wild Garden', and although not a gardener as such, William Cobbett talks about what the cottager should grow in his patch. His 'Cottage Economy' is entertaining, if you are interested in rural life. He had awful things to say about the daily cuppa and there was a recipe for pesto included in the appendix, almost 200 years ago!

Oh guys now I want all thse books, lol... I must mak some more Amazon mistakes!!image

Yes, Buttrcup, you are right I often disagree with C. L.'s opinions, and have vigourous arguments with him in my head, lol, but that's the point, it all gets you to think things through, and question what you usually take for granted. And he makes you laugh along the way. Brilliant.
