Clear white grub / bug

Hi

These have appeared in my raised bed.  I planted some salad crops and only a small number have germinated.

Does anyone have any idea what these clear, white bugs are and how I get rid of them?

Thanks

  • Could they be maggots?

I had some in my compost in a big flower pot, have never seen them before.

They are no maggots, they look like short wiggling sewing threads about an inch long.

Does anyone know what they are and whether they do any harm?

  • Albino earth worm ??.

No, I think they are by fare to thin and short to be earth worms, they are almost translucent.

This article mentions pot worms which is a possible candidate for the creature inhabiting your raised bed. What sort of compost did you use?

They are possibly what is known as pot worms. They are harmless, in the same way as earthworms of the ruddy hue are.

Try adding some lime to your soil.

    Snap Ceres!

  • Sorry, I didn't realise you were referring to the long clear worm.....as I didn't think that to be a problem, thus my reply about the small white grubs being maggotsimage

I'm assuming that any worm has to be good for the soil.......
