How to make durable plant markers?

I would love to be able to use these Markers.

    Which markers?

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

My son in law keeps me supplied with pot noodle plastic tubs, ideal to cut down and get about 10 labels from each.

Before someones knocks them for eating rubish, as someone did before, my son is a fisherman so spare a thought for the chappie with his pot noodle and flask of hot water.

My son always claimed that Pot Noodles were a guaranteed hangover cure - think he's grown out of that phase now ........... image

T get back to the original labels question, I find it's the writing that disappears before the label disintegrates in the weather.  Soft plastic, washing up liquid or detergent bottles cut into strips work better than some.  Write with a soft pencil - lasts longer than any ink IMHO.  How to stop the blackbirds pulling them out … greater mind than mine needed for that!

I bought some plastic ebay labels and also used lolly sticks and all the writing washed off when watering so I clearly need better pens for next year,

at least I get to play plant lottery this year now tho and see what comes up where lol

  • Plastic plant labels off Amazon and a Staedler Lumocolor permanent black marker. Had some of these outside for a few years and hasn't washed off yet. Pen is a leftover from college days for marking maps outside in the rain.

I use pencil to write on white plastic labels, 2B, long lasting. But this year I found a web site with black labels and a white paint pen, reasonable price, so I'm giving them a go for plants in the borders. Looks quite pro!
