Bougainvillea

Last June I was given a bougainvillea plant which I have kept as a house plant. However it has grown too big for indoors and I have repotted it and put it outside on my patio, against a trellis. I cover it with fleece at night as it is still cold up here in the North West of England. Will it survive outdoors in our climate? We live by the sea and often get gales. however we have a South-facing garden which gets full sun all day. I would welcome some advice on how to look after this plant.
