Dead Pothos - Overwatered :(

So I recently purchased and quickly murdered my first pothos (pretty sure I over watered the poor thing) image

I was thinking about buying another and trying again and got to thinking would watering from the bottom prevent me repeating the same mistake?

Has anyone tried watering from the bottom with a Pothos?  Does it work well for this type of plant?

Bit confused as to how the process works to be honest, will the plant/soil absorb the right amount of water and leave the rest of the water in the container underneath?  Or is it still possible to easily overwater the plant using this method?

I already know not to leave the plant sat in water for anything more than 15-20 mins as the roots start to rot etc.

Any help would be appreciated.  I really loved the plant and am determined to keep one.

My daughter has had one of these in her bedroom for 5 years. She says she waters it from the top around once a month if she remembers!

Every few months she has to cut it back as it hangs down from a shelf nearly to the floor.

I however had one and couldn't get it to grow at all.I wonder sometimes if it is where it is placed that may be a problem?
