Lemon tree

My lemon tree lives in a big pot in the greenhouse. It has a lot of fruit and flowers, but the leaves are covered in a black sticky substance and I've found tiny green caterpillars on there. What's the best way to clean the leaves please? Just water?
It has a lot of new growth and I feed it regularly, so the plant seems happy.

It sounds as though you may have aphids which are producing honeydew and encouraging sooty mould. You could try sponging the leaves with water after you have removed the pests that are causing the problem.
Thanks Ceres. Have cleaned all the leaves and sprayed it against aphids, so fingers crossed. Found some tiny snails as well as tiny green caterpillars.
