Dahlia problem

Could somebody please tell me what's wrong with my Dahlia, it is in the greenhouse. It was ok the other day.now it has this white stuff on it.

I have it on two of my Dahlia's but all the others seem ok.

looks a bit like mould lorna but i'm no expert, ive had some white mould on tops of compost on some plants (not dahlias) in my glass room, i scraped it off and put them outside. Have you got any on the top of compost & if so are the leaves touching it.

My dahlias are growing in the ground outside quite happily

I don't have any white stuff on the compost, all the other Dahlia seem to be doing fine. I haven't put the outside yet as we are  still getting a few really chilly nights, hopefully they will go out soon.

    Thanks for the advice sanjy

I've been moving mine out in the daytime and back in at dark, they seem happy and nearly ready to go out. I've potted the largest up and is outside already and hasn't suffered as yet, fingers crossed!image

Thanks Tetley, I will cut off the affected parts tomorrow and start to get them hardened off, we have had some bad winds here and it has been really chilly here at night that's why i didn't put them out, I don't water from above, i use a tub and fill it with water and put them in to that. Thanks again.

Wonkywomble, mine have been doing great it was just today that it has that on it, i'm glad yours are doing well.

Lorna does it rub off? If so a slight mould, if not and I can't enlarge the picture it could be leaf miner.

Hi Dave, I didn't try to rub it off, (stupid me for not trying) I've seen leaf miner in the garden before, it doesn't look the same to me, I didn't know if it was woolly aphids but i've never seen them before on my plant only on pictures on the net. I will have to try and see if it rubs off tomorrow. Thanks for the reply.

Thank you very much Edd, that is a great bit of information, never heard of using cows milk before but if it works then that's great.

    Thank again.image
