One of the dogwoods. I can't remember its species name. The one they plant in roadside and large scale plantings, seeds about
Might not be so commonly planted now, there seems to be more of an emphasis on native plantings

Thanks nutcutlet, we are redesigning the garden so it may come in useful as a 'filler' plant for now.
I agree a Cornus species, could a few things, probably suckering from something nearby.
