Phlox (Pink Candy Stripe)

Wondering if anyone can help me, my Phlox (pink candy stripe) has seemed to of flowered on really leggy stems this year. I've worked on making it grow thicker and full since it finished flowering this year but I think the weather here in England has confused it slightly. I don't want to lose the flowers that are there so I don't want to cut the leggy bits off. Just thinking perhaps this year I'm just going to have to enjoy the flowers and try again next year hoping for less confusing weather? Does anyone else have phlox? Any problems or tips you can give? When I look online the pictures show such tight spray of flowers. I so wish mine were like this. Here's some pictures of mine,
