I would remove the first flowers too and give them a good feed of clematis food and keep them watered in dry spells so they can concentrate on getting their roots deep down to find food and water. Clematis are very hungry, thirsty plants so need a good healthy root system.
Well done for planting yours deeply to help them. It'll pay dividends in future seasons with extra flowering stems coming up from the base.

I would but some may not, did you cut them back on planting to give the root sysyem a new start?
Plants were only 12" tall, I just planted them deep.
