New gardener

What is digging my marigolds up at night, they are being scattered across the garden and all the soil from the pot is dug out, there is no signs of a cat using the pot as a toilet but I'm getting very despondent every morning when I open the curtains and see my pot destroyed. Any tips would be gratefully received thanks

Squirrels looking for bulbs or nuts they buried last autumn?

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Well, when this happens in my garden it is badgers but rabbits and foxes can do much the same. Badgers are looking for worms and grubs.

I had this problem with squirrels and the only cure was to cover the plants with a protective cage until they were big enough to look after themselves.

  • Thanks everyone

A wire empty hanging basket over the pot would act as a cage
