Asparagus Beetle infestation - Help!
in Fruit & veg
Hello all,
I have two large asparagus beds which last year produced a bumper crop but this year I have an asparagus beetle problem.
Both beds (1.5m x 5m and 2m x 5m) are mulched with a few inches of straw so I cannot see the whole spears or emerging spears.
Any advice to help me rid my beds of them as they're ruining about 30% of the spears?
I don't mind using chemicals but with the straw mulch might they be less effective? Do I need to remove the straw completely?
Many thanks in advance!

I had this problem but the only advice I could find was to pick them off and also cut the foliage in winter time really short as they overwinter in these. I'm afraid to say that I gave up trying to save them in the end but will await any advice coming your way with interest
I thought about pyrethrum. Seems it is not bad advice:

But it does kil all insects including bees. And it is toxic to some animals.
