Are my common Laurels dead?

    Laurel planted 4 months ago. Looks like it's dying - help please. image

    that looks huge for something only planted 4 months ago. Large shrubs can be  difficult to establish. I'd cut it all hard back and hope for the best. Don't let it dry out but it won't be taking up much water in that condition so don't keep watering.

    the first 2 are from the same position but not the same angle, February 2016 and today, The heap of shreddings almost hiding one of them.

    This is one of them today, It's about 5' 6'' and nicely rounded.

    They don't all look so good because Storm Doris dropped a large conifer branch on a couple.

    This last pic is of the roadside hedge, cut back a lot but  only to about 5', You can see it's quite gappy but new growth is coming up from the bottom now and will fill in. I prefer the first method. Stumps
