Can anyone identify this plant/tree for me? I just moved some stacked pots and found him hiding behind them. The leaves look familiar (nut tree) but I can't place it.
No I don't think it's a sweet chestnut and the leaves aren't hairy so not a hazel either. It's not obvious in the pictures but the leaves are about 5.5 inches long.

Definitely not Beech, leaf too symetrical for Elm, could be Hornbeam, but looks more like Cherry.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I'll pot it up and see if it flowers or fruits. I think that's the only definitive way of identifying it.
