Are you watering from above or underneath? Water from underneath is best, it may be too late to save what you have.

  • whereabouts are they? inside or out?

  • I am watering from above, they were in my greenhouse and started to fail, thought it might be too hot so I moved them outside and they just continue to die.

It's probably a combination of factors Jennifer. Watering from above isn't a good idea in a greenhouse, plus the heat and maybe no shade. Sometimes if plants are in a GH a crust forms on the compost and water won't adequately penetrate, which means the plants dry out, then furious watering compounds the problems. Always water from underneath, shade the GH and plants and ventilate  the greenhouse on hot days and very bright days.

How tall are they?  What size pots do you have them in?

definitley don't like being watered too much, some of mine were fine and grew well with restricted watering and i have already planted those out and then i forgot about earlier rule when the others were all outside and watered them the same as all the other young plants and they have gone all wonky stemmed and stunted.

  • My young cosmos plants are also all dying off now they are in the flower bed. They were very healthy plants whilst in pots in the greenhouse. I carefully hardened them off before transplanting outside. They were well watered in and I added some slug pellets for good measure. Then I went on holiday for 7 days. Upon my return I noticed some were looking very sad - crumpled and dry, others were okay. Now 10 days later more plants are looking sick. What can have happened?
