My house sale will probably complete by end August beginning September - I would dearly love to take some of my fabulous clematis with me especially the early flowing varieties can I prune them and pot up for replanting in my new garden?

They might not like it but you can. Just take a good rootball with you. Why not take some cuttings as well, just to be on the safe side, clematis cuttings are easy to propagate.
You need to state in the conditions of the sale that you're taking them - unless they're in pots. Technically everything in the ground is part of the sale

Best time to take cuttings is after flowering if it's an early variety, or now for a late flowering variety.
