Bamboo in containers
Hello, I have a north facing rear courtyard in need of a facelift. I was thinking bamboo and grasses in containers as no soil and two dogs to contend with. Any advice on best bamboo and grasses to suit these conditions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Alison

This might answer your question re the bamboo.

You can keep bamboo in large pots. They need to be large to stop them from falling over (top heavy) and to keep moisture in. You will need to water all the time as they are from areas with very high rainfall and give a general feed.
Thanks to your question about bamboos, I ended up buying one online. Have gone for a tiny one called fargesia murielae bimbo which should look great in a pot and I'm hoping will rustle a bit in the wind. That's the trouble with this forum......it makes you think about all the plants that are out there.
My advice would be to go for clumping Bamboos (as a pose to spreaders) and to make sure to chose smaller species... not the giant 'forest' ones who's stems get as thick as a mans arm!
That's what I'm planning to do anyway : )
