Keepers or chuckers?

soulboysoulboy Posts: 429

Last year I planted seeds from a packet of so-called wildflower mix from Lidl in my back garden border. This Spring I've had some plants emerge that I don't know. This one is quite tall. at the moment they're between 50 - 60cm. Can anyone ID this plant and tell me if it's worth keeping.

That looks like Ox-eye daisy to me,

or Moon Daisies as my childfren called them - see Noggin and the Moon Mouse http://www.nogginthenog.co.uk/development/main_pages/sagas/early_readers/noggin_and_the_moon_mouse.htm image

It's an ox-eye daisy, makes a spreading clump and I think looks very attractive. It does seed itself around if it is happy, but sets off other plants well, so I leave it if I think it will look good.

    Don't feed it.

If you do, they flop all over the place

Thanks Darren, very useful advice. The good thing, and probably the reason they're doing so well, is that the back garden border I've set aside for mainly wildflowers. So the plants there are in quite heavy clay soil that's just been dug over and had most of the stones removed.

I've not added any compost and last year I didn't use any feed for the plants there and they all did very, very well.
