Chrysanth cuttings
The GW website encourages planting out chrysanths this weekend but my cuttings, in an unheated greenhouse, have barely started to root. They're about 3 inches tall and I was planning to pinch out the tips tomorrow. Should I really be putting them out now ? Should I start hardening them off ?

i'm not sure about the answer to your question but my mum bought me a bunch of crysanths, after they died i kept meaning to throw them on the compost but kept forgetting and they have all rooted in the water and have new growth on all of them so i'm going to pot them up tomorrow.
Ivy, I would let them develop a good root system prior to planting them out.
I think that with all 'Do this weekend' type features, we have to take into account, as you are doing, the condition of the plants (as well as the condition of the soil and the state of the weather).
It sounds to me as if you are making a sensible judgement - let them make sturdy little plants before putting out.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Leave them in the greenhouse for a while longer
. Harden them off and plant out in about 4 weeks or so. Here in Holland they sell rooted cuttings of the same size as yours in the middle of June. I'm sure they'll be fine and will give you lots of flowers
.
Good luck!
Thanks all.
