Weed or not

 Hi,

Can anyone help me identify this woody type plant/weed (assuming the picture has uploaded properly!). These seem to be sprouting in various places over our garden even through the lawn and are really tough, not easily pulled out at all. Are they something I should be worried about? I have googled japanese knot weed and im sure its not that?

Thanks

    Not japanese knot weed.

  • Phew!

Still cant work out what it is though...not sure whether to get it up now before its too big. There is loads of this coming through our lawn as well. We definately dont want it there!

It looks like suckers from a prunus tree. Doesn't even have to be that close to the tree. I've got one that does it, can't pull them out. I cut them off.

  • Ah ha! I have just googled this  Busy Lizzie and I think they may be suckers from a plum tree?!

Our neighbour has quite a large plum tree next door, a cherry blossom and we have another smaller plum tree. What do you think?

  • Do your neighbours prune their trees?

  • As far as I am aware they do... although I like the plum when it blossoms most of the tree leans over to our side though so they are not able to prune it very much. I prune what I can of it but is quite high. I would like to get at it more!

Pruning can stimulate the tree to throw up suckers from the roots in trees such as prunus that are prone to it  ...

I don't prune mine and it still sends up suckers.
