Repotting an acer

in Plants
Hello all
I have just read the instructions on putting an acer into a bigger pot but was worried to see that this should be done before February - I've only just bought mine, can I still pot it up now ? Or will I disturb the foliage or something ?
Thank you - and apologies if this has been discussed before but I'm a newbie to the forum, despite reading and watching GW for more years than I care to think about !

From a pot to a pot I see no issues but avoid overpotting.
What about moving an acer from the front to the back garden in the ground? Should i wait until autumn?
You can plant pot-grown trees and shrubs into the ground at any time the ground isn't frozen or soaking wet. Acers don't like early morning sun, strong sun or windy spots, so put it somewhere sheltered with a bit of shade, preferably in a west-facing border. They also don't like limey soil so best keep it in a pot if you have chalky soil.
I agree with Blairs - only move it to a slightly bigger pot. You should do this before July, as it will want to put out new roots to fill the space before next winter comes. If you use too big a pot, or do it too late in the growing season then it might exhaust itself trying to reach its goal
(Sounds mad, but was the advice I was given by an acer nursery at Hampton Court show a few years ago
