Thank you so much nutcutlet!!
ok so here are 3 pics of these bad boys which are taking up space in 3 ares of my garden currently!!
I think that's one of the petasites. P hybridus maybe. Butterbur
ripe for a spot of glyphosate.
Have realised your 3 ares is 3 areas, I thought 3 acres at first glance
In for a tea break, back to 3 acres of nettles now

Thankfully not 3 acres!
Ok thank you, so am i best to dig them up as the roots seem to be everywhere and very tough... or am i best to get some good/strong weedkiller on the case?
Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it
I'd go with nut's advice and use a decent weedkiller. It would be a soul destroying job trying to get those out. It's the ideal time as they're growing strongly - that means they'll take the weedkiller up successfully. Follow the instructions carefully and be ready to re apply at a later date when any more new growth comes through.

Thank you Fairygirl! I completely dug up the bed in the first picture in october time last year and put some weedkiller down, you are right it was soul destroying! But low and behold its all reared its ugly head again!
i'll try something stronger, hopefully it wont kill off the lovely Bluebells we have growing close to them (or at least i assume they are bluebells!!)
Yes - bluebells. Pick a still, cloudy day for the weedkiller if you can as it helps prevent any being blown onto plants you want to protect, and the cloud cover means the foliage will be slightly damper which helps absorb it . Evenings are good as it means avoiding using it when lots of bees are still around. You could also screen the bluebells off with polythene or something similar as a temporary solution until the weedkiller dries. Keep an eye on the weeds as new growth can come through quickly. It's an ongoing problem for gardeners, but see it as a challenge!

SBK might be the most effective.
The blue bells look nice! Hope you can manage to get rid of the weeds. You can use a great homemade weedkiller if you don't want to deal with chemicals. You can find a great recipe here.
Meanwhile, did you know that some gardeners consider the bluebell as weeds? Often pretty flowers turn out to be garden suckers and thing can get pretty serious.
For anyone who is interested if they have weeds disguised as flowers in their gardens, here is an interesting article with great photos:
