I wanted to grow tea, as the green tea you get in this country is so awful, nothing like proper Chinese stuff. I Googled and found a post from someone who had grown his own bush. He said it was not worth it in terms of the amount of tea harvested. So I gave up on the idea.

I would be concerned about the plant, to be sure it was a decent strain, excuse the pun. Also, there is Camellia sinenses var assamica, which I think is more productive but lower quality. It is the form grown in India.

Incidentally, there are many ways of procesing teal: green tea, white tea, black te, red tea and yellow tea come to mind. White, I think, is made by air drying buds and leaves.

Coffee grows easily as a house plant. With a big enough pot and in a sunny window it will flower and produce seeds which germinate easily. This way you can keep growing it for years. I have grown coffee plants for about 30 years. Never tried roasting and grinding the seeds though...
