Where to start?
Hi
my wife and our two small kids have we recently moved into a new home. It was previously owned b?? an elderly couples who once did a lot of gardening but I'm led to believe in the last

two years not much at all has been done. I would like some advice on what to do with it.
I'm not looking to redesign it yet but I'd like to smarten it up an give it a bit of a spruce. There is a large appe tree in the middle that needs some tlc/pruning I've included some pics to help.
Id appreciate any advice.
Regards
Jason

it's lovely jason, if it were mine i would just tidy it up and see what appears throughout the year then you can decide wat you like to keep and what you're not fussed about. when the time is right i would give the apple tree a good prune of any branches that cross each other and open up the centre to allow air and light through it.
Hi, I'm quite new to gardening myself but have got very engrossed very quickly, its a great way to relax
It does look like your garden has been loved so I don't think it will take to much to get it under manners!
There are lots of people here that can advise you if you upload a few close up pictures of individual plants and areas of concern.
You've got a lovely foundation there on which to build. Look up a weed recognition chart and get to recognise the common baddies so that you can get those out. Leave anything you are not sure about and ask on here. It looks to have some good shrubs already apart from that wonderful apple tree and I am sure more nice things will appear through the year if you can just keep the weeds from smothering them.
I've just recently taken over a neglected garden too, so know what you mean. We've been here 9 months. I'm trying to resist digging up too much and just leaving things to see what they do thoughout a year.
I'm mainly just concentrating on the major weeds (brambles and nettles in my case) and tyding up what's already here. Good Luck.
I would just cut back anything which is severely overgrown but generally just check the plants out over the first12 months to discover what you actually have.
Hi all,
apologies for the tardy reply and a massive thank you for all the comments and advice. We've started to pull out the major and obvious weeds so some progress is being made. There is one small area that looks like it may have been used for vegetables and fruit because there is definitely a strawberry plant there and what looks like fruit bushes. More research is needed though for the latter. I've start reading up on the best time and way on how to prune the apple tree but like most of the garden Ill probably leave it to see what happens in the coming months.
Thanks
Jason
