Hi, I have a lavender plant that i got about this time this year, its lived happily in a pot and survived the winter well.. i question is this.... its a bit tatty looking now, do i trim it back? and if so, how ruthless am i with it.

Yes trim it back but not into old wood because it won't grow from old wood

If mine I would shake off most of the soil and add in more gritty soil and bury the bottom few inches in the soil (to rejuvenate it), then mulch the top of the soil with stone (which keep some moisture in but also provides extra heat). Place in the sunniest spot in the garden.
