So far this year we have blue tits and wrens fledged within the last two days. The wrens nested in one of our tit boxes this year which was unusual. We have also seen the first brood of magpie but they were being seen off by the jays.
I do admit to loudly clapping my hands if I spot any magpies around the garden and also crows. Watching one of our newly fledged blackbirds being caught and ripped apart on the neighbours chimney last year put me off both these ruthless murderers. I appreciate this is always going on, but I prefer it not to happen in front of me. However watching a sparrowhawk killing one of the hundreds of wood pigeons in the garden and coming back on three consecutive days to consume it was a joy to behold. Just so amazing how many species of birds occupy/visit a small garden on the edge of a small town (Ross on Wye). They just give so much joy (and cost so much!!! Ha Ha)
We have waxwings here some Winters (although not this year). They arrive in their dozens and don't leave for usually 2/3 days until our large cotoneaster tree is stripped bare. We have experienced guys with massive camera lenses outside our house once!
I currently have a family of 5 very noisy starlings feeding on the dried mealworms that I put out, even my cat skulks back into the house when they are around, they are so noisy! I also have nesting blue tits where 3 or maybe 4 tits are all feeding the nesting chicks (but that's another thread).
I live in SE London and regularly get the infamous Ring Necked Parakeets at my feeders the photos do not do them justice, they are the most vivid green colour!!
i also get a pair of Jay birds which are cool also and a pet Robin that feeds from my hand
We too have a pair of robins that feed from our hands - they're very demanding and as soon as we appear in the morning they're shouting for their mealworms and they're busy feeding their nestlings until it's quite dark in the evening. The male is braver than the female, but even she now comes and perches on our hands to feed Hopefully they'll bring their fledgelings along to feed soon. I must order some more mealworms!
You may get some 'odd remarks' on here - you see, your 'name' Hefty is what we call the very large hedgehog who's been visiting us ever since we moved here nearly four years ago - we have several visit us each evening, but Hefty is quite a character and his comings and goings have been reported on this board quite regularly! It was quite a shock to me when I saw your name here this morning - for a moment I thought Hefty Hedgehog had learned to type!

I would love thrushes in my garden but ive never been lucky. Some years ago every autumn we used to have a warbler of some sort hanging on the wire of my aviary containing african finches and he was probably on his way to africa ? We also had a grey wagtail for about 3 months.
Lol now that WOULD be something a hedgehog gettin online
Thats great about the Robins, i had heard that sometimes they feed from peoples hands, didnt think it would happen for me tho, i was chuffed when it happened the first time - and yes they r very demanding! But i love it - gonna make him work for it now tho
