Killed rhubarb plant?

So, I'm still new to all of this. By mistake, we were cutting down some long grass and accidentally chopped a lot of a rhubarb plant.

To to stop it rotting, I pulled all the stems out and am now only left with a couple of crowns, with the fresh leaves just sprouting. Will having pulled all of the stems out possibly shocked and killed the plant?

If it has been there a few years it'll recover.  If it's a newly planted one it might struggle.

  • It's been there for around 3 years so hopefully it will be ok?

I think it'll be fine but I wouldn't pull any more stems this year to give it the best chance of building the crown up again.

Weed all the grass away from around it so that it has a clear circle of soil about a metre in diameter around it.  Give it a good watering and mulch around (not over) the crown with some manure and leave it alone - it'll recover.  Just make sure it doesn't dry out in the summer (but it doesn't want to be soggy either).
