Shredders

Does any fellow gardeners have any experience of small electric shredding machines. Are they of any use in shredding leaves so as to speed up the composting process?

I got one via freecycle and it's wonderful. It takes anything up to the thickness of a broom handle. Works a treat.

I have one and use it to shred shrubby stems and any woody plant that I have decided to butcher, but it can clog up if I try to feed in any stems that have a lot of green leaves attached.

We have a Bosch, its very good but as Ceres says, its not so good on leafy stuff. You could run over leaves with the lawnmower.

Many thanks for your advice to my request re shredders. As I suspected they appear to be not good for my idea and purpose of leaf only shredding. I will continue to compost leaves as before. Thanks to all for taking time to offer advice.

Those blower/vacuum things do shred dry leaves pretty well, but I think you mean fresh green ones?
