Poorly Rowan Tree

Rowan tree was planted last spring as a bare root, grew okay.. didn't put on any height, but had leaves and looked happy enough.  It survived the winter, and had plenty of new leaves.. but they've all drooped over the past three days.  We've suddenly had a lot of wet weather, but I have sandy soil and that area is raised above the rest.  It's been a bit cooler of late, but not below freezing.  No other trees are showing issues.  No damage to the bark or trunk, no weed killer sprayed, etc.  I live in Utah, USA.

Any ideas?

Our soil is quite alkaline, so at planting I mixed the existing soil from a large dug hole with about 1/4 peat to raise the PH and moisture retention.  My neighbors down to road have a full grown specimen, and there are others here and there around town.  And the fact that it did fine all last summer, and put out leaf this spring.. I'm worried it a goner.

Should I move it elsewhere?  I'm worried the transplant shock would send it over the hill.. but perhaps there is something particular about the soil there?  It's about 20 feet from the edge of our house, and about 3 feet from the edge of our patio.  Maybe there is something in the soil from the build?  House is about 10 years old.

Yeah Pansyface, that's what I'm going to have to accept.  It's a shame, I always thought of Rowan as extremely tough and hardy (think Scottish mountains, growing in some unreachable crag in extreme weather, etc).

My mum bought the tree for me last year as a Mothers Day present, as my older boy is named Rowan.  (Named after the tree, I figure it's good to give kids names that may inspire them, and perhaps imbibe a bit of the attributes to their character).

Right now the leaves are still limp, like yesterdays cut branch.  It's such a mystery.. no marks, no pests, just death.  I'll dig it up once all hope is gone and have a look at the roots.

Thanks, I've not actually come across that page yet.  Could be I suppose.  I'll also take back that wire and get up close to the trunk and look for borers.  I had a poke around, but they sound like pretty small holes that will need a close up search.
